Dr. Tokita

Dr. Kenneth M. Tokita is a Radiation Oncologist at Cancer Center of Irvine in Irvine, California. Dr. Tokita has been practicing Radiation Oncology for over 25 years. He has performed over 1000 prostate radioactive seed implants using the modern technique and over 200 prostate radioactive seed implants using the "old" open abdomen surgical technique.

Dr. Wilder

Dr. Richard Wilder has been practicing Radiation Oncology and conducting clinical research since 1993. He joined us at the Cancer Center of Irvine in September 2007. Dr. Wilder completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Stanford University, graduating with honors. He went on to attend medical school at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. He completed a Radiation Oncology Residency at the University of Arizona and a Radioimmunotherapy Fellowship at the Stanford University Medical Center. In addition, Dr. Wilder holds an MBA with a concentration in Finance from the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School. Dr. Wilder was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of California, Davis, University of California, San Francisco, and The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He was promoted to Associate Professor at M.D. Anderson.

Dr. Wilder is an author on 55 peer-reviewed articles in journals including Journal of Clinical Oncology, Journal of Urology, and Cancer Research. In addition, he served as a written and oral board examiner in lymphoma for the American Board of Radiology and currently serves as a member of an Expert Panel on Hodgkin’s disease for the American College of Radiology. Dr. Wilder is the principal investigator on a $135,000 grant from SenoRx, Inc. to study accelerated partial breast irradiation. Also, he obtained a $165,000 grant from Genzyme Corporation and an investigational device exemption from the FDA so that the Cancer Center of Irvine can study a new treatment for prostate cancer designed to reduce rectal toxicity. Dr. Wilder specializes in Breast, Prostate, and Skin Cancer, and Lymphoma. He enjoys golf and tennis in his free time.

Dr. Ravera

Dr. John Ravera has been practicing urology since 1966, spending majority of this time in private practice at Newport Coast Urology. In 2007 he joined us at the Cancer Center of Irvine heading the oncology research department. Dr. Ravera completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Southern California and went on to attend medical school at the St. Louis University School of Medicine. Subsequently, he spent two years in military service as a medical officer in Vietnam. Upon his homecoming to the United States he completed his residency at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School. In addition, Dr. Ravera was a clinical fellow in the surgery department at Harvard Medical School. He was also an Assistant Professor in the surgery department at University of California, Irvine as well as Chief of Urology Services at Veteran’s Hospital in Long Beach, California.

Dr. Ravera is an author in peer-reviewed articles in journals including Urology, Journal of Urology, Medical World News, and JAMA. He has also had award winning exhibits presented at Western Section American Urological Association meetings. In addition, his movie, shown at the American Urological Association National Meeting in Miami, Florida won a special award for Best Education Film. Dr. Ravera currently resides in Southern California and enjoys fishing and traveling in his spare time.

Other Staff

Radiation Therapists – our staff therapists are all California State University Long Beach alumni, graduating with their Bachelors of Science in Health Science with an option in radiation therapy. They are also State Certified and nationally registered through the ARRT.  These therapists are the people you will see on a daily basis and will be delivering your treatment.

Medical Dosimetrists – our staff Dosimetrists are also licensed radiation therapists with an extra certificate in medical dosimetry. They are licensed as CMD’s and are members of the AAMD. These Dosimetrists are the people who create treatment plans that are delivered by the radiation therapists.

Nurses – our staff nurses are all registered by the state of California as R.N.s. You will see them once a week for a check-up, or if needed as frequent as you wish.

Physicist – our staff physicist is a graduate of San Diego State University with his Masters degree in Medical Physics. The medical physicist is responsible for the routine quality control of linear accelerators that are used for cancer treatment. The measuring and calculating of the radiation dosage from internal and external radiation sources given to patients are other essential services provided by the medical physicist.
